Known for their beautiful scenery and rich history, Loudoun County land and farms are a great place to call home. The county’s position in the northern part of Virginia offers easy access to the Washington—Arlington—Alexandria metropolitan area, while also providing an idyllic rural environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Proximity to Washington Dulles gives easy access to commercial and cargo flights, while the Silver Line of the Washington Metro has recently extended out into Ashburn. Loudoun County Public Schools is Virginia’s fifth largest school system and ranks in the top 15 of US school systems for educational achievement. Loudoun County high schoolers are eligible to attend the Academies of Loudoun magnet programs in addition to their regular high-school curriculum. Once they have finished there, students can move on to one of Loudoun County’s eight colleges or universities—including Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Farm Research Campus, which gives Loudoun County land and farms access to the most cutting-edge advancements in agricultural science.
Land and farms in Loudoun County have a storied history going back to when George Washington’s Continental Army nicknamed it the “Breadbasket of the Revolution.” Loudoun farmers were some of the first to implement livestock vaccination and seed inoculations in the United States and the resulting agricultural booms made them invaluable in supplying provisions to US troops in WWI and WWII. Modern property opportunities in Loudoun County include estates of all sizes, farmland, ranchland, riverfront land, and clear and forested acreages. The more history-minded residents of Loudoun County spend weekends exploring the Harpers Ferry National Historical park or one of the county’s many historical districts. Outdoorspeople can spend a weekend out boating on the Potomac River, hiking the overlooks of Short Hill Mountain, or biking and horseback riding along the county’s many trails.
