Sitting at the mouth of the Shenandoah Valley and the northernmost point of Virginia, Frederick County land and farms offer unparalleled mountain views with easy access to urban amenities. Officially organized in 1743, Frederick County has a long history: George Washington represented Frederick County in his first elected office before becoming president, and he chose the city of Winchester as a home base during the French and Indian War, 23 years before the American Revolution. This history runs deep in Frederick County, VA land and farms, which offer historical properties as well as estates of all sizes and price ranges, farmland, riverfront land, acreages, and timber land. In modern times, Frederick County has a significant agricultural industry, while also providing thousands of jobs in manufacturing and healthcare. The county’s rural environment is the perfect place for homegrown local businesses, and the county government works to ensure small business owners get the support they need to make their dreams a reality.
Frederick County, VA land and farms also have a thriving agricultural community today: hundreds of people flock to Frederick County every year for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, a ten-day event celebrating local orchards and vineyards and the beauty of spring. The rest of the year, Frederick County supports farmers and local farms through preservation programs, agricultural development initiatives, and Homegrown Frederick: a program designed to highlight the more than 1,300 farms, ranches, dairies, and nurseries that call Frederick County home. Floriculture is a major industry in Frederick County and it’s not uncommon to see fields of brightly-colored flourishing flowers while out on an afternoon drive. Those country roads also lead to Interstates 66 and 81, which connect Frederick County residents all the way from Washington, DC to the Tennessee and West Virginia state lines.
