Farms and land in King George County are appealing to investors, businesses and sportsmen looking for a rural area with skilled labor, stable economy and plentiful natural resources. King George County land is located in the Coastal region and adjacent to Caroline, Essex, Westmoreland and Stafford counties in Virginia and Charles County in Maryland. The 188-square-mile county is home to 26,575 residents. King George County farmland encompasses 26,337 acres, and 95% of agricultural sales is for crops. Some farmers create waterfowl impoundments in their fields during duck season. Thirty-four percent of the farm acreage remains as woodlands. U.S. Department of Defense’s Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division is the county’s largest public employer. The top private employers include Tatitlek Technologies Inc., Lockheed Martin, Anteon Corporation and Northrop Grumman Corporation. Fishermen and hunters take advantage of the hunting and fishing opportunities on the Rappahannock River Valley Wildlife Refuge and Caledon State Park. Fishermen also wet a line in the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers. Other attractions include the birthplace of James Madison and Dalhgren Railroad Heritage Trail. King George County Schools provides K-12 public education.
