An afternoon drive through Bamberg County land and farms will quickly demonstrate why the county’s motto is one word: “Naturally.” Located in South Carolina’s Thoroughbred Country, Bamberg County has long combined a healthy dose of Southern charm with a beautiful natural environment. The land is dotted with cotton, soybean, peanut, and poultry farms, broken up by the horse stables and cattle ranches that define Thoroughbred Country. The local Bamberg County Cooperative Extension connects local farmers to agricultural specialists, helping local producers stay up to date on best farming practices, agricultural advances, and tax law. Available land and farms in Bamberg County include estates of all sizes and price ranges, farmland, ranchland, riverside land, and clear and forested acreages. All are served by Bamberg County Schools, which leads the six-county area in SAT and standardized test scores. The district supports two elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools, as well as an adult education center and Denmark Technical College. The county is also home to the historic Voorhees University, which offers private undergraduate and post-graduate degree programs.
History has a strong foothold in Bamberg County land and farms. Bamberg Historic District has a significant collection of impressive Second Empire, Neo-Classical, Queen Anne, and Victorian architecture that will impress any discerning eye. The cool waters of the Edisto River provide plenty of opportunity for paddling and fishing, offering a rich selection of bass, jackfish, pike, catfish, and redbreast. Nature is celebrated yearly in the local town of Denmark, whose annual Dogwood Festival draws visitors from all over the state to marvel at the stunning pink and white blossoms and enjoy a parade, food, live entertainment, games, and contests.
