Pender County land borders on the Atlantic Ocean and the counties of New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus, Bladen, Sampson, Duplin and Onslow. Both I-40 and US Highway 17 cut through the county thus providing easy access for visitors and shipping to other regions. Farming activities include 64,500 acres. Livestock and poultry are 91% of the county’s agricultural sales. The top private employers are LL Building Products and Coastal Power and Electric. It is less than an hour’s drive time to both Jacksonville and Wilmington. The town of Hampstead is known as the Seafood Capital of NC because of its robust commercial fishing industry and proximity to island beaches. Fishermen enjoy pursuing their sport along the Cape Fear River, the shoreline of Topsail Island, Roan Island and Rock Fish and Colvin’s creeks. Hunters visit the 48,795-square-mile Holly Shelter Game that is used for hunting where deer, bear, turkeys, fox, raccoon, rabbit, squirrel, quail and doves are bagged. Pender County Schools provides K-12 public education. Cape Fear Community College and Westview Bible College open the door to higher learning.
