Pitt County Land and Farms

Farms and land in Pitt County attract investors, developers and sportsmen with the open spaces, access to transportation corridors, low wages and skilled workforce. Pitt County land is bordered by Martin, Beaufort, Craven, Lenoir, Greene, Wilson and Edgecombe counties. Crisscrossing the county are US Highway 17, US Highway 13, US Highway 64, US Highway 264, and just 30 minutes away is I-95. Located in the Coastal Plain, the 655-square-mile county is home to 180,742 residents who mostly live near Greenville where Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University are major employers. Agriculture and manufacturing also are major economic contributors. Top private employers include Nacco Materials Handling Group Inc., Patheon Manufacturing Services LLC and Alliance One International Inc. Farmland covers 186,412 acres, and livestock and poultry account for 58% of agricultural sales. Fishermen answer the call to wet their lines in the Tar River, Clayroot Swamp, Lake Kristi and other local water bodies catch a long list of species including speckled trout and largemouth bass. Hunters can expect to see plenty of deer and turkeys, but its claim to fame is bear hunting. Attractions include the Greenville Museum of Art, Walter L. Stasavich Science & Nature Center and Blackbeard’s Queen Anne’s Revenge Shipwreck Project. Pitt County Schools provides K-12 public education. East Carolina University, Pitt Community College and Miller-Motte Technical College offer higher education.
