Mecklenburg County Land and Farms

Mecklenburg County land and farms appeal to investors, developers, homebuyers, sportsmen and businesses because what’s not to like? Land in Mecklenburg County has great transportation access, low taxes, affordable land, skilled workforce and a wealth of natural resources. Located in the Piedmont, it is adjacent to Lunenburg, Brunswick, Halifax and Charlotte counties and Warren, Vance and Granville counties in North Carolina. The 679-square-mile county has 30,650 residents. Manufacturing, farming and tourism provide much of its economic base. Located between Richmond and Raleigh, I-85 and US Highway 1 provide access to major shipping corridors. Farmland encompasses 141,142 acres, and 90% of agricultural sales are for crops. Thirty-three percent of farmland remains in woodlands, opening opportunities for lumbering. Some farmers create impoundments to attract waterfowl. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy three lakes including Kerr Lake, which has 1,200 miles of shoreline used for camping, boating, fishing, hiking and trail rides. In addition, fishermen enjoy casting lines in the Meherrin and Dan rivers where they can snag largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish. Hunters can stalk game in one of the 17 wildlife Management Areas or on private land and forests. Deer, bears, turkey, geese, ducks and other species and other game are plentiful. The Dick Cross Wildlife Management Area is popular for annual field trials. Other attractions include Bluegrass in Boydton held in the summer. Mecklenburg County Public Schools provides K-12 public education. Southside Virginia Community College offers higher learning.
