Nash County Land and Farms

Farms and land in Nash County appeal to investors, manufacturers, homebuyers and sportsmen due to its transportation corridors that include I-95 and US Highway 64. Straddling the border of the Piedmont and Coastal Plain, Nash County land is bordered by Franklin, Johnston, Wake, Wilson, Edgecombe, Halifax and Warren counties. The 543-square-mile county has a population of 94,298 residents. Manufacturing and agriculture are important to its economic base. Farmland covers 130,000 acres, and crops account for 66% of agricultural sales. Seventy-five percent of the farmland is cropland, and 15% remains wooded. Products manufactured in the county include diesel engines, electronic fuel control systems, textiles, apparel and pharmaceuticals. Among the top private employers are Hospira Inc., Consolidated Diesel Co., Universal Leaf North America and Mclane Mid-Atlantic Inc. The Tar River, White Oak Swamp and Moccasin, Swift and Deer Branch creeks make the area a popular haunt for boaters, hikers, hunters and fishermen. Anglers can snag crappie and largemouth bass as well as other species. Hunters can find deer and turkeys. Rocky Mount, the largest town in the county, sits in both Nash and Edgecombe counties. Public K-12 education is provided by Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools. Nash Community College and North Carolina Wesleyan College are just two of the several colleges offering higher learning.
